A Winter Wonderland
Friday’s run was magical. Big flakes falling all morning turned my small Wisconsin village into a winter wonderland.
Winter running can be a challenge. It’s cold, for one thing, and often cloudy.
Then there are days like Friday. Running in the snow is more demanding than on the dry pavement, yet it feels effortless.
The day before, in the same temperature, it felt cold most of the run.
Stopping by a pond to take in the scene, there was no perception of cold even as I stood motionless for several minutes.

I recently shared the idea from world-class runner Geoffrey Kamworor that we need to work hard, just not every day.
“Work hard, but not every day.” Geoffrey Kamworor
Hard work was put on hold for a time. Instead, I went for a run because it was snowing, and running in the snow is fun.
As soon as I’m done writing this, I’m going for another run.
Today the snow has turned to slush. It’s cloudy, and the wind is gusting.
This one won’t be fun. It will be hard work.
I’m going to enjoy it anyway.
