Itβs Monday, and I want to share something quick that you can apply right away to make your week better.
The Magic of Framing and Reframing
I used to have a lot of stress before discovering a potent shift in perspective that has made all the difference.
This might sound unconventional, perhaps even a bit silly, but a simple change in how we frame our experiences can be transformative.
Now, I say I have a ton of excitement in my life.
Thatβs it.
Instead of having a lot of stress, I flip it to I have a ton of excitement.
The key to this transformation lies in framing or reframing, a process that numerous studies across various applications have validated.
Instead of letting stress or anxiety consume you, try this straightforward technique.
π Say to yourself, "I'm excited about giving that presentation," instead of, "I'm nervous."
π Replace the idea of having "so much stress in your life" with "engaging in so many exciting activities."
π₯ The results can be astonishing.
I'm committed to applying this approach daily. Did I mention I have a TON of excitement in my life? π
How about you?
Now, let's tackle another common challenge: Being "Busy."
Being βbusyβ often implies a lack of control and a sense that life is happening to you.
It symbolizes a loss of power and denies personal responsibility.
It feels like something that happens to you.
What if we flipped the script?
Reframing "Busy" to Empowerment
Rather than describing yourself as "busy," consider that you're actively choosing how you spend your time.
Try this simple experiment:
π Say, "I am choosing to use my time in..." or "I have allocated time towards these activities."
This reframing places you firmly in control of your time allocation.
Embracing this shift in perspective can work wonders in your day.
Remember, instead of feeling stressed and overwhelmed by busyness, you can harness those emotions as excitement and prioritization.
π Thatβs it. A nice, easy lesson to kick off the week and make things a little bit better.

Years ago in grad school I heard someone suggest that it is better to say 'I choose to write this paper' instead of saying 'I have to write this paper'. It made a big difference in my whole attitude about grad school at the time.
