Ikigai Thought for Today...
There is a Greek word that describes the circumstance when someone knows what to do in theory but doesn’t act on it in practice.
Akrasia
The literal translation is “an act against your own best interest because of the weakness of will.”
Information is everywhere. We know what to do, so why don’t we act in our best interest?
Looking back, most of the excuses I’ve made not to take a step were…
not enough time
not enough money
not enough experience
not the right connections
I’ve learned to overcome my akratic behavior through several practices over the years.
Among them…
✅ Releasing the need for perfection and embracing Personal Kaizen.
Both practices allowed me to try, fail, learn, and grow. I strengthened my will with each small act of doing something toward what I wanted.
It gave me the courage to follow my Ikigai fully.
"akratic behavior"
Profound.
Even with a drive for continuous Improvement moderated by imperfection, I wonder if sometimes the reason we don't take steps toward the thing we know to do in theory is because we question whether it will put at risk another circumstance that has equal or greater value?
An ability to evaluate intangibles - as I call it "apples to oranges to bananas" - s a difficult skill to cultivate.
Perfection is not the need it is the direction as the dart has to the bullseye. Matthew 5:38-48 Strive towards Agape Love with others as the direction will lead to a transformational encounter with not only others but ones inner self to fulfillment ;) Peace and Joy
