Yesterday I announced the launch of Ikiquest, a daily call to live out your Ikigai through inspired action.
Here’s an example of the extra and actionable content you can expect from Ikiquest.
The top half of the post is Your Daly Ikigai, and the bottom half will be all that and more with Ikiquest.
My focused ‘word’ for 2023 is…
I tried something new two years ago, picking a Focused Word for the Year. Selecting a focused word supports a systems-based approach.
My focused ‘word’ for 2021 was INTENTION. Choosing INTENTION produced many meaningful experiences as I learned the value of intention and acceptance throughout the year.

It was beneficial, and I decided to do it again in 2022. I selected...
💥 Create
📌 create (v.) "to bring into being," from Latin creatus, "to make, bring forth, produce, procreate, beget, cause, to grow." Related: Created; creating.
It supercharged my creative actions last year. I’ve written more, worked on double the creative projects with my grandkids, etc.
When you dive into the distinctions of a word, it reveals deeper meaning and understanding. The distinction to ‘bring forth’ spoke to me.
🌀 Focusing on bringing forth creativity prompted me to take the leap and create this newsletter.
My Focused Word for 2023 is...
Abound, meaning ‘in great plenty’ or ‘being together in great numbers.’
I have a vision for the kind of person I want to be in 2023 and beyond. I’m striving to live from and into that place in my Ikigai.
My 2023 word supports that vision and primes my mind for opportunities to live into that word.
It’s not magic; sometimes, I will transcend; other times, I’ll fail, and regardless I’ll keep going.
All of the above plus you can expect this extra in Ikiquest…

Focused Word in Action
Initially, I selected flow...flow (v.) Old English flowan to flow, stream, abound-be in great plenty, overflow.
Digging deeper, I found ‘abound.’
abound (v.) be in great plenty," early 14c., from Old French abonder "to abound, be abundant, come together in great numbers. An abounder is one who has, who brings together, and has plenty.
Shortly after I selected ‘abound’ I took a short vacation in Florida.
It would have been easy to talk myself out of taking this trip.
There are many things to do around the house. Money is tight right now. I could list dozens more ‘reasons’ why I could have decided against going.
Instead, I embraced the idea of operating from a place of plenty of being an abounder and took the trip.
I’m doing the same thing with Ikiquest. Living into the ‘coming together in great numbers’ gave me a vision for a place to share deeper and actionable insight into Ikigai.
Here are more reasons why you might want to pick a word for this year:
📌 Your Focused Word of the Year serves as a touchstone for the person you want to become.
📌 Your Focused Word of the Year primes your mind for focus throughout the Year.
📌 Your Focused Word of the Year provides a basis for the actions you’ll take during the Year.
📌 Because it is outcome and system-based, your Focused Word of the Year will help you push through when times get tough.
Thanks this impetus, David. I chose Generation: bringing into existence; causing to be; producing; creating and distributing vitally and profusely.
