I picked up my grandson from school a while back, and we ran errands together.
One was to pick up some natural honey.
Something I really enjoy about my grandson is that he is eager to learn and open to hearing the rationale for decisions. We were looking through the honey selection and he spotted the jar pictured below. "This looks like a good one."
It was a good choice though the price per ounce is more in the 'bear' container. I started to explain to him the bigger jar of Concord Farms honey was the same and less expensive.
Then I paused looking at him for a moment.
Instead, I acknowledged that he thought this was a good choice, and I bought the bear.
There will be time to explain costs per ounce and whatnot.
That day, that moment was about acknowledging him and what he thought was best.
Yes we learn when shopping that Marketing is everywhere even before we enter the supermarket and professionals are at work in the details. One but look at the comparing weight of the products even from the same company to realize that sales (discounts) may help and also what may be the reasoning behind it. Like the attraction to something visual like a bear with honey as compared to just a container is marketing par excellence. So lesson> spend the needed time in the supermarket as in daily living and business opening your eyes, mind, emotions and intellect to the bigger picture. Pause when needed then weigh and decide. This will become mental memory and after a time we will not be perfect but better at making all types of decisions. Last point, yes I know...remember NOT making a decision is A decision too, right or wrong!
Good point. Sometimes we get caught in the complexities of life and don’t see things from the simplicity of a child’s perspective.
