Self-reflection is a key component of uncovering your Ikigai.
I encourage my students to start a reflection on Friday. This allows you to start today and go deep with something throughout the weekend.
Below is a series of Ikigai Ideas to spark contemplation. Any or all of these can be used to uncover your Ikigai though aren't exclusive to that.
Many of you will enjoy all five. Spend some time with each one going deep into the meaning of each.
For a few of you, one idea will stand out and prompt a special time of reflection.
Here are your Fabulous Friday Five…
“In the bigger scheme of things, the universe is not asking us to do something, the universe is asking us to be something. And that’s a whole different thing.”
Lucille Clinton
“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”
Howard Thurman
“The most common form of despair is not being who you are.”
Søren Kierkegaard
“I think most of us are looking for a calling, not a job. Most of us, like the assembly-line worker, have jobs that are too small for our spirit. Jobs are not big enough for people."
Studs Terkel
“Burnout is what happens when you live outside of your purpose for too long.”
