Friday Fun
On Fridays, it is fun to have some things to ponder.
Here are five thoughts on happiness to energize your weekend reflection.
All of these can be used in your Ikigai contemplation.
Many of you will enjoy all five. Spend some time going deep into the meaning of each.
For a few of you, one idea will stand out and prompt a particular time of reflection.
Thoughts on Happiness
The habit of being happy enables one to be freed, or largely freed, from the dominance of outward conditions.
Robert Louis Stevenson
“When grace is joined with wrinkles, it is adorable. There is an unspeakable dawn in happy old age.”
Victor Hugo
Would you rather be right or happy?
The Ikigai Guy
“Derive happiness in oneself from a good day's work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us.”
Henri Matisse
“Don't let your happiness depend on something you may lose.”
C.S. Lewis
The state of joy or fulfillment we operate in bears little resemblance to external conditions we think affect us. It is an internal state that we have cultivated.
I also really like "don't let your happiness depend on something you may lose". That's a consequential statement. Many have learned that one after it's too late.
Very thought-provoking. I love the binary question: "Would you rather be right or happy?"
Could spend a good while thinking about that one.
Seems particularly relevant in these times when so many seem immovably entrenched in arguing for what they believe is right.
