I'm as guilty of it as anyone else.
Waiting until everything is just right before making a move.
The need to be or for circumstances to be just right is strong in most of us. Especially if, like me, you are a recovering perfectionist.
Hugh Laurie said something that has stuck with meβ¦
βIt's a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you're ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.β
Hugh Laurie
In so many ways, he is right.
π No one is ever ready to do anything.
π There is almost no such thing as ready.
π There is only now.
That's not to say if your job isn't going well one day, just quit. You might want to 'start' the process of looking for another or building up a bit of savings now.
Waiting until everything is absolutely ready will likely never occur. I've mentioned that my career didn't end quite as I had planned.
Certainly, nothing was ready or perfect to end my corporate career and start my own business, and yet it was the right time to start those things. Time to start living into my Ikigai.
π± A year from now, you may wish you had started today. Now is always a good time though it is rarely perfect.
πFinal thought and question for you: If not now for your dream, or hoped-for-event, when?
There is a distinction of being prepared and ready to being perfectly ready. We can and should do all we can to be experts in our industry of choice and prepare to help customers in a business setting. At the same time with our personal life we need to be prepared to the best of our ability for the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortunes", adjust and move on with some life lessons and friends along the way!
