🌀Ikigai is experiencing your essence and purpose in harmony with whatever you do.
What does that mean in practical terms?
What does it look like?
How do I get there?
I’ve created the 47 Big Bold Beautiful Benefits Of Ikigai to answer those questions.
Today I share number 2 in the series…Inner Peace
“Distraction is the only thing that consoles us for our miseries and
yet it is itself the greatest of our miseries.”
Blaise Pascal
More than 80% of people have experienced some level of burnout in the past year.
Chronic stress, distractions, anxiety, worry, feelings of panic, and difficulties in relationships all disrupt our inner peace.
The is so much noise in life it can drown out the voice of purpose.
We’ve got to be able to hear that gentle call to purpose before we can act on it and embrace our inner peace.
That’s why getting the noise down is listed first in the Invitations of Ikigai.
If your life is so filled up with noise and stress that you can't even hear that call to purpose, unwrapping or uncovering your Ikigai is all but impossible.
Even if you have uncovered your Ikigai like me, noise can hamper the ongoing ability to live it out.
Because of that getting the noise down is the first step, and it’s also the ongoing process that enables us to live out and share our ikigai.
Living out our Ikigai leads to inner peace.
Applying the lessons of Personal Kaizen here are three small things you can do today to move closer to having that quiet and inner peace.
Take one minute to close your eyes and breathe deeply.
Write one thing you're grateful for each day.
Listen to a relaxing song.
While these seem small they represent an easily achievable step toward living out your Ikigai.
They quiet the noise allowing you to move closer to inner peace by hearing that quiet voice of purpose.
Try one of them today.
Going Deeper
Let me go a little deeper into what I mean by quieting the noise.
Noise is everywhere in our lives, from notifications, social media, and news to visual clutter and the demands of operating in an ever-changing world.
Other noise sources are those voices in our heads. Voices of fear, judgment, hurt, anger, and more.
As an engineer, I worked on sophisticated electronic gear that transmitted and received radio signals.
This helps me understand noise in this way.
If the signals were clean, meaning noise-free, the systems would operate properly.
The signal would get drowned out if electronic interference, defective components, or other electronic noise sources were involved.
You know what I mean if you've ever tried listening to an AM radio while driving under the power lines.
You get that noise right over the top of the music you're trying to listen to.
Our lives can get like that.
The world has become so static-filled that it drowns out the necessary signal.
It's hard to think sometimes think, let alone thrive and live into our ikigai.
We need to quiet the noise so we can hear the signal.
Look for ways to create space and quiet in our life by eliminating or reducing distractions like notifications and social media.
Schedule time for peace in our day to walk, think or rest.
Watching our self-talk for negative messages and voices of judgment, stress, and anxiety. Replacing negative self-talk with positive and affirming thoughts.
Finding something we enjoy and doing more of it.
Give these a try. Today could be the beginning of a new sense of inner peace for you.
🌱Remember, every day is a fresh start.

Great insights as we all need to enter the the state of silence! Silence is a profound melody, for those who can hear it above all the noise. -Socrates We may ask why do we allow static into our loves when clarity is needed! Many like me have a condition called Tinnitus which is constant noise because of a malfunction in our internal signal processing mechanisms in processing noise. Focusing constantly is mandatory to get through a typical day. We also learn in pain/challenges to strive towards joy!
Very inspiring message David. Truly agree with you that we have to practice having that inner peace to let the vibrations of calm, serenity flow into our well being. We have to practice the sound of silence. In so doing, that will be the time to enjoy the inner peace that we are trying to seek for ourselves.
