It was Tuesday and a local ‘take and bake’ pizza place has a deal on a large pizza with unlimited toppings for $10.
I thought I’d get some audiobook listening in on the way to pick up the pizza.
My car had other plans.
The Bluetooth connection to my phone was acting up and I couldn’t get it to work.
When I got home I handed off the pizza to my wife and set about reconnecting my phone to the Bluetooth.
The last time I had to set up the phone in my car was three years ago when I bought a new phone.
Let’s say it is not the most intuitive process.
audio narration by David Marlow
Car: Do you want to pair your phone?
Me: Yes
Car: Which phone do you want to pair?
me: David’s iPhone.
Car: Phone pairing failed…too many phones paired. Do you want to delete a paired phone?
Me: Sure
Car: Which one? David’s iPhone or…David’s iPhone?
Me: I guess David’s iPhone
Car: (apparently picking which one ) Deleted. Do you want to pair a new phone?
After a lengthy process, the phone is finally paired.
The car then instructs that I must pair an audio device giving me the option of using my phone or a separate audio device.
📱Me: Use the phone.
🚘 Car: Your phone is already paired as a phone you must pair a separate audio device.
It turns out you can still use the phone by labeling it the audio device.
Once completed only one task remains. Naming the audio device.
📱Me: David’s iPhone
🚘 Car: Pairing failed. The device name, David’s iPhone is already being used. Select another device or device name.
Me: (Murmuring to myself) But that’s the device name.
🚘 Car: Pardon?
After almost an hour of the Bluetooth not working and then the ridiculous process of pairing I’ve lost my patience and exclaim…
That IS the device name you $%^& %#8@!
🚘 Car: Now pairing audio device named, “That IS the device name you $%^& %#8@!”
🤦🏼♂️ 🤣

Thanks for the laugh, David. I frequently find myself going around in similar loops when signing up for things. Did you manage to sort it out in the end. It's also good to know that occasionally even a Zen guy like you can lose his s***
