The Difference Between T-Ball and Ikigai
My granddaughter played t-ball this year (she was amazing if you had any doubts), and her brother moved up to coach’s pitch and had a terrific season as well.
For those unfamiliar, t-ball is a beginner form of baseball. It teaches you the basic concepts of the game but isn't the complete game.
📌 Growth in Ikigai can be much like in other practices, such as learning a sport. You start small, and then, when ready, you take it to another level.
The Ikigai Venn diagram (pictured below) is a bit like the T-Ball of Ikigai. It is good for introducing the concepts and developing a general understanding of what Ikigai is all about.
I frequently use the Venn as a diagnostic tool in my coaching. Much like T-ball to full-fledged baseball, the Venn is only the beginning because it is career-centric.
🌀 Ikigai is more than a career.
It is purpose and authenticity lived out in every area of your life. That’s why I’m sharing an entirely new way to understand Ikigai.
🌀The Who, What and Why of Ikigai.
Ikigai is about experiencing your essence and purpose in harmony with whatever you do.
Understanding our purpose is essential if we are to start living it out in every part of our lives, not only our careers.
Many jobs and businesses have continued to change since the pandemic. If you are defined by your job or your role and those change, you are in a bit of trouble.
If you are defined more by your purpose, you have the ability to adjust and change because your understanding of the root of who you are remains the same.
This is true for individuals and companies and is why I am so passionate about helping people find their ikigai.
Thanks for this David. It resonates with me especially as I read the book “the purpose economy”. For most of us purpose has been defined by work of our work or what we do. Work needs to be defined by our purpose instead.
