It’s always exciting to start something new. It can be a bit scary as well.
In my coaching, I teach this approach to doing something we've never done before.
We're trying something new...we're going to be bad at it...we're going to do it anyway...then we'll get better…and it’s going to be okay.
It is a simple yet powerful framing that gives you permission to start something new without any requirement of being able to do it well, at least at first.
It is the approach that enabled this newsletter to get started.
Maybe you are doing the same thing in your personal life. I've worked with many people who wanted to do something new in their life but had quit because they were bad at it in the beginning.
If you want to do something you've never done before it really takes only one thing. Being okay with not being great at it to start with.
I did that a year ago in creating Your Daily Ikigai with no idea how to create a community through a newsletter.
Three hundred and sixty-five daily Ikigai thoughts later, YDI has become a Moai, an Ikigai family of nearly 2,000 people from around the world!
Thank you for being part of sharing Ikigai with the world.
Do you have something in your life you’d like to do you’ve never done before?
It's okay not to be okay. I can do it anyway. I have to do it. If not who else?
This is a MUCH better thought than my go-to:
“I’m going to be amazing at this new thing. And if I’m not, the world might end…”
