Permitting ourself the freedom to ignore what has come before is a tough one, David. It depends on the depth of "starting over" required to achieve change and the other people around us who may be caught in the crossfire. We've all seen plenty of examples of those who "burn it all down" to start again with zero regard for the people they impact.

It is the proverbial fine line between mindlessly holding on to current state and mindlessly dismissing all that has come before. Of course at come point we have to realize what got us 'here' won't get us to where we need to be.
