Powerful thoughts today, David. Making meaning of “what is” has taken me being knocked flat on my back for the past 4+ years. While I never imagined I would be in this place, I am grateful for the insights.
"What would it mean to be limitless, definitionless; so unique it's difficult to write our obituary?" - - This flies in the face of a lot of marketing advice we get as professionals to "niche down" and be focused on one thing. I believe it is a Both / And. We CAN demonstrate our expertise through generalism, and the wide openness we embrace through the rest of our life, while still focusing its practical application for others to benefit from. Doing whatever it takes to impact the most people possible.
Oh my gosh Scott! YES. It felt so difficult to be told to "niche down!" 🙌 Like...can we imagine...telling children & their luminous imaginations..."niche down." 🤭
Like that loathsome phrase grown ups say: What do you want to be when you grow up? They generally mean career, although that certainly does not define our "be"ing.
I think we find another challenge added to those that academic institutions are finding. This second half of the Gen Z cohort, especially those who were teenagers through the pandemic, have big ideals and are looking for a path that does not conform to the ones already prescribed.
If a kid wants to take medical courses in a university that lead toward engineering, but have strong Instincts in the Arts (which would also support their mental health and neurological resilience in whatever career they pursue, as well as the bump in academic grades) they often find they are not allowed to sign up for courses that are not in the "school" they are registered with.
Forcing young people to decide how they're going to use school 4 or 6 years from now is making it uncomfortable enough that many are questioning if university degrees are even worth it.
I feel this...What if...learning was tailored to the question...
Who are you here to BE & how can we support you in that exploration? AND...everyone had equal access to it? What would the world be like in that environment?
Proves we may have our own plans and when we allow God in to work with us that He may have other paths...quests to take and journeys on that way we may even question but ultimately pays off if we just stay engaged and forward-thinking! Remain curious and hopeful!
I agree Joe & feel everyday is an opportunity to surrender to the limitations of my mind re: the idea of the way things "should" go or are for that matter & recieve... the Divinity of "This...or something better!" Like...constant opportunities to be enchanted...by life 🙌
