"...decidedly temperamental about when to use them." Oh, that conjures up some images and ideas. I'll bet there is at least one story to be told about that car. I always like Pontiacs. Was sorry to see that nameplate disappear.
The story: crossing the US 1 bridge over Mt. Desert Narrows and driving the two-lane highway through Sullivan, Maine, at 10 mph, leading a parade of angry motorists.
You can tell your age when you are talking about the Mustang. My first new car was a 64 mustang. It was bought and only my sister could drive it, but it was something to see. Years later I was over at a relative's home, and he had bought a 69 Mustang with the 429 Cobra jet engine. I grew up during the muscle car era. Without getting long winded I will just end this by saying I enjoyed the pure muscle cars.
My mom had a 67 and I don’t recall the exact engine but it was powerful. Mine was a base model 6 cylinder. Given the rust on the frame, it was probably a good thing otherwise it might have shaken apart. I test-drove a Mach 1 with a 350 Cleveland engine and a four-barrel carburetor. That thing could put you in the back seat with acceleration. Those were the days. Thanks for sharing your memories!
My sister had a mustang in 1965 it was silver green with black hardtop She loved that car ! She was always ahead of stuff she had the first apple computer- would be worth fortune today -
Mine was a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville. It had all the gears, but was decidedly temperamental about when to use them.

I can only imagine!

I always liked that metallic green look on the older Mustangs. Should ask your sister what to invest in now! 😉
That is awesome! I found the process fascinating. What color is your car?
Perfect!
