"Quiddity"... From which, no doubt, JR derived "Quidditch". Which got her a quid or two, or three...

I wondered that while writing it out. 'Hmmm, is that the origin of Quidditch?' Great minds!

I was thinking the same thing! I love the word quiddity, it’s authenticity, but better. It doesn’t imply a commercial appeal or an apparent freak flag, it’s just perfectly, precisely as audacious or not as it is.

Hoosier! “Who’s yere?” was said to be the call of the early settlers. My great grandfather was the first white man born in Grant County. Hoosier in our blood. Good story David.

Being from a distant country, I always heard about the Indy 500, and never knew much about it. Thank you for that beautiful story. I don't think I would ever go in person, but it was great to go with you and your grandson! Thank you.

As a kid mid 70’s to mid 80’s, I loved that stretch of I-65 coming north from Indy to Chicago. The highway flowing above the valley. Such a contrast to the corn and soybeans and steel mills.

Yes, a very different view. The same trip going south is a bit like Dorothy opening the door to Oz. Nothing like a sunset over those fields...I used to roam. That's for sharing your memory, Bill!

I went to a small college in Indiana, and I eventually lived there for several years (as an adult lol) thanks to a great job opportunity. The Indy 500 was always a big deal, even to those who didn’t know much about it - like me. David, thanks for sharing and I’d love to hear more about your time in Indiana!

So many things have changed since I lived there. For example, if friends learn that I grew up in Indiana, they will inevitably ask if I am a Colts fan. The Colts hadn't played a season in Indiana yet, though they were on the way. There was only one high school basketball tournament, no class champions. And Indianapolis is half again as big as it was back then. But the people remain some of the friendliest in the world.

It’s such a great city and I would definitely live there again. So many fantastic restaurants have opened, not to mention a lot of breweries too.
