I hope you have a lovely day, celebrating being a dad and grandad, and remembering your own father. Those we love are always with us, living in our memories and in our bones. Go well.
I constantly catch myself acting like my mom in the tiniest ways.
The way she stands with her hands on her hips while sunbathing in the water near the shore.
The way she makes a little pout when she's watching my dad doing something dangerous on a ladder.
The way she rubs her hands together after taking out the trash, before washing them.
I do all of that, too.
I can only imagine what an enormous amount of themselves they passed on to me, without me noticing. This is one of the thoughts that makes me think it'd be nice to have a little one.
It is amazing how much like our parents we can be. It seems even more apparent as I get older. I become more like my dad every day. Children are a lot of work and an even greater blessing.
Our dad's sound a lot alike, David. I hope they get to meet one day. Whether we realize it or not, we create film reels that live on and replay in the minds of our kids. Hopefully it gives them a head start on the things they needed to learn, if not a preview of what not to do so as to be prepared for it in a way to respond differently than we had.
Humanity is beautiful. We simply do what we see makes a human, and then later, we try to improve upon the things we notice and suffer or thrive from the things we don't.
May we continue to honor those men who have touched our lives.

One of the most profound for me was the moment I first saw my son holding his son.
In a flash, I thought, "I once held him as he holds his son; and someday, he'll be me, watching his son holding his first born.
I could also see myself through my grandfather's eyes when I was the newborn in arms. I felt time stretch and compress in this glimpse of generations past, present, and future. Thinking of it still triggers strong heimwee.
I love Cats in the Cradle too. Let me add In the Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics and Father and Son by Cat Stevens to your playlist. Happy Father’s Day.
Happy Father's Day!
Thank you, Naomi!
That was lovely.
Thank you, Carol. 🙏🏻

Like a single moment in the middle of two eternal lines.
Deeply moving David. Makes me miss my dad too
There's an old song that speaks to being someone others could be lonely for. I'd say our dads achieved that goal.
Thanks David. That very much reminds me of my own father. I am glad how I grew to emulate him.
That's a blessing indeed.
Happy Father’s Day Dave! And to all the Fathers embracing life, family and Ikigai today. Going fishing with the kids & grandkids. Enjoy your day!
Sounds like the perfect day!
As always, a sparkling tribute for (and from) someone special.
Thank you, Larry. 🙏🏻💙
