It Snowed…Again
Spring has arrived in Wisconsin though you wouldn’t know it by the snow covering the tulips, daffodils, and other flowers sprouting in my yard.
There are people here who live for winter and others who endure. My heart dwells somewhere in between.
The weekend snowfall created an exquisite scene, a glimpse of which is shared in the picture. Big wet flakes that stuck to the trees and fences created a postcard-worthy winter wonderland.
Except it isn’t winter. Did I mention it was spring?
Nearly everyone would have embraced the snow as a splendid happening fitting for Christmas if this were December.
Since it is March, seeing the ‘beauty’ in it was much more challenging.
What’s the difference?
We had an endless stretch of darkness and snow a few years ago. My grandson E, who was four then, stared out the window at the gloom.
“I want it to be Spring, “ he shouted, clinching a fist and stomping his foot.
He had expectations of what it was ‘supposed’ to be like, and reality wasn’t meeting them.
Expectations
It is spring, and we expect certain things from spring. Or at least I used to expect them. Much like my young grandson, there were things I not only wanted; I expected them to happen. When they didn’t, I was disappointed.
Attitude Adjustment
This weekend I chose to embrace the snow and enjoy the experience. To witness the beauty and welcome the cold.
And it was a good day.
Nice to see the pics of a Spring snowfall and your smile ;) the calendar does not dictate the season as lines in our life are more of boundaries to be explored not hemmed in. We were taught to color within the lines as children...yet as adults do we not expand the picture and lines. Is the sky defined on a coloring sheet...the clouds or drawing another item in where there are no lines. "Every season is one of becoming, but not always one of blooming. Be gracious with your ever-evolving self." — B. Oakman
We are on the Illinois/ Wisc border and got a good dumping as well. It was beautiful and wet. I didn't shovel but instead took a hike in the back 200 and had a fun snowball fetching bout with my dog. I was happy that I had picked up months of dog poop the day before in the yard and knowing it was likely the last of the white stuff, tried to enjoy it while it lasted. The forecast calls for a sunny 50 deg day on Thursday...I can wait patiently and happily as I know the warmth is coming. Cheers
