Patience
Let's consider something today that few of us have enough of in our life...patience.
This cold is testing my patience. Not only was I down for the count yesterday, my new neighbor had a tree removed. That thing had to be the Sequoia of pine trees.
Chain saws and grinding all day. Either on their own would try my patience.
One thing I like about being a grandparent is the reminders I get from the grandkids. I have the opportunity to pick my grandson up from school. For whatever reason, he likes to tell me things when we are in the car more than when we are at home.
Stories or, in this case, insights or observations he has made.
Waiting for Christmas
A while back, he said without prompt, "You have to be patient for things you want. Christmas is coming. Halloween is first; it’s at the bottom of the month. Being patient for things you want is a good thing. Like Christmas or Halloween, you've got to be patient.”
He was five, by the way. I wish I had even an inkling of the value of patience when I was 5 or 25, or 35.
🌀Reflection
🌱 When did you learn the value of patience?
🌱 When has having patience paid off for you?
🌱 What are you dealing with that is perhaps testing your patience right now?
Speaking of patience, yesterday, I hinted at something new in the newsletter. I’m afraid the cold is preventing me from putting it together. You’ll have to wait. 😉
Patience is a tricky one, David. I think I have been a mostly patient person much of my life, though I have recognized a tension between that and stretching, pushing limits, not settling into complacency. Especially when we become accustomed to getting things done. Then when they are not, we are challenged to accept the limitations of others around us, ourselves, or other factors we simply do not control yet, if ever.
A long game is a worthwhile game. The most, in fact. Being present every day in that long, beautiful journey.
Speaking of long games, perhaps the internet has moved on... but I've never forgotten this gem:
